The Bare Flag Theatre celebrates regionalism and all that it entails. Our purpose is to create dynamic and entertaining theatre for the pleasure of the diverse audiences of the San Francisco Bay Area. To achieve this, we will create new work inspired by the many perspectives and stories born out of Northern California. In addition, we believe there is value in producing established plays. Whether reimagined or performed as written, there is still a lot to be learned from the work that came before us. Bare Flag is also set on employing theatre artists from the eclectic theatrical community here in the Bay Area. Taking a cue from the philosophy of California Cuisine, we feel theatre is better if it’s created by resident artists who have made a commitment to carving out a life here. Finally, what does our empty flag mean? Flags send messages. The announce ownership, tell us of danger, or ask for peace. Our hope is that the bare flag serves as an invitation.
